USC West Quad
West Quad is designed to support a living-learning community focused on sustainability
Five hundred students live in the apartment-style suites. In addition to using Energy Star appliances, low flow plumbing, and furnishings with recycled content, students are able to monitor their own electricity consumption in real-time over the internet. The Quad is also situated near the campus shuttle line and provides plenty of space for bicycles. Some of the green space is planted to provide backyard habitat while other areas, like terraces in the center of the complex, help reduce stormwater runoff.
West Quad includes the Learning Center for Sustainable Futures
The mission of the Center is to promote increased awareness and understanding of sustainability through fostering development, demonstration, investigation, and evaluation of sustainable policies, practices, and technologies. The Center supports the ongoing development of a sustainable living-learning community for West Quad residents and the wider USC society.
The Learning Center provides flexible meeting/class space and a lounge to house these activities. We host conferences, classes, and student activities ranging from Game nights to movies to midnight breakfasts. The staff also provides tours of the complex to visiting groups.
